Hi! I am Preeti. I’m a researcher in health economics and mental health research, and I care about the human experience. My research interests include Global Health, Psychiatry, Identity, Social Psychology, Diversity, Culture, Refugees, and Forced Migration.
Before I entered academia, I worked in consulting, social entrepreneurship, and data and analytics across the UK, Canada, the US and Rwanda. I also have clinical experience and many years of voluntary experience in health and community settings, which informs my academic research.
My past research experience includes founding and co-heading a research programme in a foreign policy think tank, producing a Capstone research project for an international NGO, an LSE Groups research project, being a policy and community researcher, publishing a peer-reviewed journal article, and developing my skills as a Data & Analytics consultant.
Currently, I work as a researcher in university settings in health economics and psychology. I co-produced an economic report analysing and modelling the integration of refugees into the UK, which was launched by the Independent Commission for the Integration of Refugees, as well as further work on the asylum system, and wellbeing and identity. These have been complemented by my practical experience in the health and social care sector, which have helped me understand the challenges and inequalities that people face in healthcare, as well as my experiences being dual culture.
The common thread throughout my journey is Sarbat de Bhala and seva. These are Punjabi phrases which translate to the “wellbeing and welfare of all” and “selfless service”, respectively. These are the core tenants of Sikhi and they shape my career and personal life.
Outside of my research, I enjoy writing and I’ve got a portfolio of my publications here. I love to lose myself in a book. Here are some of my book reviews and recommendations of my favourites. I also love languages and speak English, Hindi, Punjabi, and French with the official C1 DALF diploma.
